13-bit differential input, low power A/D converter with SPI serial interface

Post Date: 2022-12-26 , Microchip Technology
Technology Cover

The MCP3301 13-bit analog-to-digital converter (A/D) has a fully differential input and low power consumption, making it ideal for battery powered systems and remote data acquisition applications. Combining the successive approximation structure with on-board sampling and holding circuits, the 13-bit a /D converter has ±1 LSB differential nonlinearity (DNL) and ±1 LSB integral nonlinearity (INL) for B-level devices and ±2 LSB for C-level devices.

Schematic diagram

The industry standard SPI serial interface enables 13-bit A/D converter functionality to be added to any PIC® microcontroller. The MCP3301 uses a low-current design that allows typical standby and active currents of as little as 50 nA and 300µa, respectively. The device has conversion rates up to 100 ksps and test specifications in the 4.5V to 5.5V power supply range. The reference voltage can vary between 400 mV and 5V, producing an input reference resolution between 98µV and 1.22 mV.
