Technology Cover

Bourns, Inc. introduced a bidirectional power transient voltage suppressor (PTVS) diode designed for high-power DC line protection applications. The new model PTVS20-015C-TH can handle 20 kA current surge at 15 V low voltage, making it an ideal and effective electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection solution for high-power DC bus protection applications.

Bourns PTVS20-015C-TH PTVS diode complies with IEC 61000-4-2 Class 4 ESD protection requirements. It also has low clamping voltage under peak pulse current, which helps to meet IEC 61000-4-5 8/20 μ S Current surge requirements for lightning protection.Bourns model PTVS20-015C-TH complies with RoHS standards and contains no halogen.

In order to support large currents such as 60 kA in the next generation of applications, designers usually have to connect many devices with low current processing capacity in parallel. With a single device capable of handling 20 kA, fewer devices can now be connected in parallel to achieve the same required level of protection. This reduces the total BOM and helps to save valuable space on the PCB.
