Technology Cover

PI2DPT1021 two-way retimer is a bit level retimer with receiver adaptive CTLE and transmitter 3-tap equalization, which can compensate channel loss up to - 23dB during 5GHz signal transmission. It supports USB Type-C of DP 1.4 and USB 3.2 standards  DP ALT mode operation. Operation configuration can be programmed to select 4-lane DP, 2-lane DP/1-lane USB 3.2 Gen1x1/Gen2x1, 1/2-lane USB 3.2 Gen1x1/Gen2x1 or USB 3.2 Gen2x2 through I2C interface.

This equipment adopts a general 1.8V Vdd power supply, which realizes good power saving management. Compatible with USB link power management status, active mode (U0) and power saving mode (U1, U2, U3). USB Rx detection continuously monitors the insertion and removal of TX terminals. LFPS signal detector detects LBPM (LFPS Based on PWM Message) in USB mode.

Under the display port operation, the AUX listener will monitor the data rate of AUX communication, channel count, swing and priority settings, and power saving D3 mode settings. The HPD connection signal of SINK terminal is set by the system PD controller through the I2C register. The integrated AUX/SBU switch automatically maps the AUX+/- pin of the Displayport to the Type-C SBU1/SBU2 pin.

If DFP and UFP signal flows are exchanged, two-way design provides flexibility. For active cable applications, this is a convenient dynamic setting, or it can provide more layout options for signal flow selection. Due to the advantages of bit level retimer design, PI2DPT1021 has very low delay (< 1ns) from signal input to output, providing good interoperability between various USB and DP devices.
