High performance synthesizers can be used in programmable fiber modules

Mouser currently owns Renesas Electronics' FemtoClock2 high-performance clock frequency synthesizer. Providing jitter as low as a maximum of 64FS RMS, the synthesizer is placed near a switch, ASIC, FPGA, or PHY, requires several reference clocks, and has a maximum jitter performance of less than 100fs. In addition, high-performance devices can be used as adjustable OTN clock references for OTU3/OTU4 mapper, as well as reference clocks for programmable fiber modules.

The device can also be used as a DCO for frequency interval or OTN clock applications. The synthesizer includes RC22504A synthesizer and RC32504A dither attenuator and synthesizer. The PLL core consists of a fractional feedback analog PLL (optionally controlled by a digital PLL in the RC32504A device) that operates at a frequency between 25MHz and 80MHz.

These multifunction synthesizers can be configured to automatically reset themselves after taking advantage of internal custom one-time programmable memory with up to four different configurations. And the synthesizer provides 4 differential or 8 LVCMOS outputs, supporting any frequency from 10MHz to 1GHz (180MHz LVCMOS).

The synthesizer is supported by the RC22504A evaluation kit. Engineers can develop a configuration using the Renesas RICBox software and upload it to the evaluation board using the USB connection. This evaluation kit provides the company's low-noise power regulator and its low-noise fan-out buffer.
