Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., has introduced six new 850nm and 940nm high-power infrared emitters and expanded its optoelectronics portfolio, providing best-in-class radiation intensity in a 3.4mm x 3.4mm surface mount package. Based on Vishay's SurfLight surface Transmitter chip technology, the device can be used for high drive currents up to 1.5ADC and 5A pulses in industrial and consumer applications.

The infrared emitter uses a dual-stack chip to provide a high radiation intensity of up to 6000MW/Sr at 5A pulse currents. 30% higher than the previous generation solution and 10% higher than the nearest competitor. And to further save space, the launcher uses 20% less space than competing devices and previous generation solutions. These values allow for greater lighting distances while reducing the number of components required to reduce costs and save space.

Infrared emitters are ideal for closed-circuit television, machine vision, license plate recognition, billing systems and general infrared lighting games and eye movement tracking in night vision. For these applications, these devices combine their high radiation intensity with three half-intensity angles (±28 degrees, ±40 degrees, and ±6 degrees), an increase in ambient temperature range from -40C to +125C, and thermal resistance from 6K/ W to 9K/W.

These emitters meet RoHS, halogen-free and Vishay Green standards and support lead-free (Pb) reflow soldering. According to ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC js-001, these devices offer high ESD resistance up to 5kV, 168 hours of shop life, and class 3 humidity sensitivity in accordance with j-std-020e.
