STMicroelectronics VN5160S-E is a monolithic device made using proprietary VIPower M0-5 technology. It is designed to drive a resistive or inductive load that is grounded on one side. Active VCC voltage clamping protects the device from low-energy spikes. When STAT_DIS is left on or driven low, the device detects open load conditions in the on and off states. An output shorted to VCC was detected in the off state. When STAT_DIS is driven high, STATUS is in a high impedance state. Output current limit protects the device from overload conditions. In the event of prolonged overload, the device limits the power dissipated to a safe level until a thermal shutdown intervenes. The thermal shutdown function with automatic restart function allows the device to resume normal operation.
