Texas Instruments 24-bit, delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter

Post Date: 2023-02-08
Technology Cover

The ADS1271 is a 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with data rates up to 105kSPS. It offers a unique combination of excellent DC accuracy and excellent AC performance. High order, chopper stabilized modulators achieve very low drift and low in-band noise. Airborne extraction filters suppress modulator and signal out-of-band noise.

Block Diagram

The ADS1271 provides up to 90% Nyquist rate available signal bandwidth with a ripple of less than 0.005dB. Traditionally, industrial delta-sigma ADCs that provide good drift performance use digital filters with chase band droop. Therefore, they have limited signal bandwidth and are mainly suitable for DC measurement. High-resolution ADCs in audio applications provide greater available bandwidth, but with significantly weaker bias and drift specifications than their industrial counterparts.

Pin definition

The ADS1271 combines these converters to allow high precision industrial measurements and ensure excellent DC and AC specifications over an extended industrial temperature range. Three operating modes allow optimization of speed, resolution and power. An optional SPI or frame synchronization serial interface provides a convenient interface with a microcontroller or dsp. The output of the modulator can be used in external digital filter applications. All operations, including internal bias calibration, are controlled directly by the pin; There are no registers to program.
